OWEGO, N.Y. -- Lockheed Martin's Owego plant celebrates a milestone delivery. The company presented its 150th MH60 Romeo Helicopter to the US Navy Thursday.
Lockheed Martin is contracted to deliver about 300 of the aircraft to the U.S. Navy, making this the halfway point. Officials and employees were joined by Congressman Tom Reed for a special ceremony.
The company is also celebrating a new radar system on the chopper, as well as the delivery of the 400th Common Cockpit, which will be installed on the First Australian Romeo chopper.
"This aircraft is really our banner program here at this site. So the men and women that work on this aircraft every day are extremely proud of what we do here, so this is a big moment for us," said Tom Kane, Lockheed Martin Naval Helicopter Programs.
A crew from the Seahawks squadron is flying the aircraft from Owego to a naval station in San Diego.
Lockheed Martin hopes to have all 300 choppers delivered to the US Navy by 2018.
