HORSEHEADS, N.Y. -- The Horseheads Central School District is beginning to crunch numbers for the next fiscal year.

District officials say it's been a rough process for the last five years. Since 2008, the district has had to reduce 121 staff positions. There could be more restructuring looming.

Horseheads leaders say it will be extremely tough this year as they predict a $5 to $6 million deficit.

"The governor has proposed approximately 1.5 to two percent increase for us. We're disappointed with that figure. Last year, we had approximately four-and-a-half increase in state aid and I think the piece people often forget about is the fact that the current year, we're receiving less state aid," Superintendent Ralph Marino said.

The district is holding the first of three community budget workshops Thursday night at the Erin Town Hall beginning at 6 p.m.
