Speach Family Candy Shoppe back open in time for Valentine's Day

A popular Syracuse candy store is back in operation just in time for one of the busiest days of the year. The Speach Family Candy Shoppe on Lodi was forced to close last month after a portion of its ceiling collapsed. Now, business is back up and running. Our Brad Vivacqua joins us now from the shop.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A popular Syracuse candy store is back in operation just in time for one of the busiest days of the year.

Speach's Family Candy Shoppe on Lodi Street was forced to close last month after a portion of its ceiling collapsed. The store was closed for four weeks while work was done but has since reopened.

Workers have been busy making homemade truffles, chocolate potato chips, and other candies.

Employees are just happy the store is back open as business typically increases about 45 percent for Valentine's week.

"My goal was to be open for Valentine's Day because we do have a lot of loyal customers and I want to make sure that we keep their traditions going. Which it's important for us to be open," said Michael Speach Jr., Speach Family Candy Shoppe president.

The store has been owned and operated in the Syracuse area for 93 years.
