NATIONWIDE -- Some plastic surgeons around the state say they will soon be offering a new type of breast implant that has just been approved by the FDA.

It's called the "Natrelle 4-10," but its nickname is "the gummy bear implant." The name comes from the firm gel interior of the implant, which mimics the texture of a gummy bear candy.

"In a standard implant like this, the gel is viscous, and if it were cut, it would ooze out slowly. But the gummy bear implant, if it were cut in half, the implant gel would stay put," said Howard Langstein, M.D. URMC Plastic Surgery Chief.

The new implants appear more natural, and are available to women who need reconstructive surgery, as well as women who are seeking breast augmentation. Those interested can learn more about the implants at a plastic surgeon.
