ELMIRA, N.Y. -- It's been two years since Elmira's Grove Park Pavilion burned down. Now, a new pavilion may finally be built.
Elmira City Council will vote Monday night to accept a new bid from Architectural Concrete Plus LLC to build the pavilion for close to $136,000.
The pavilion burned down in 2010. Since then, the city had accepted a bid from Edger Enterprises of Elmira Inc., but Edger failed to include fair labor costs.
"What happened was that they forgot to put that amount in. So they requested that their bid be basically rejected because otherwise they'd lose money. So we did that and we moved on to the next most responsible lowest bidder," Elmira Mayor Sue Skidmore said.
Skidmore says the new pavilion will be up by the end of the year. The city council will also vote to accept a $2,500 donation from AARP for new benches at the park.
